Kathleen Woods

My Scottish roots are reflected in my painting. The Scottish artists from the past; the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists, influence me with their realism in landscape and still life. Inspiration comes from light and drama of the southwest coastline of Galloway.

Nature keeps changing and has the ambivalence of being both nurturing and hostile and I feel my own work takes me in the direction of the elements in nature and the importance of presence and atmosphere. I paint the moment and the feeling of Time and Place.

My favoured subjects are Scottish landscapes, flower paintings, inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe, and still life, concentrating on shapes and angles.

I work in watercolour, pastel and oils and have recently explored the use of colour through printing. This method of working has taken my work from figurative to abstraction.
